You have probably come in contact with this book series if you have even the slightest contact with a child age 1-4. They are incredibly cute, easy to read, and Bo just loves them. He recently received the book If You Give a Cat a Cupcake
My admiration for the book and author out of the way, my brain must operate in a completely different spectrum of reality from Laura Numeroff. The author leaps across creative chasms where I am unable to follow. For instance,
“Seeing the sand on the floor will remind him of the sprinkles. He’ll
probably ask you for some.”
When I was seven years old, my grandparents rented a house on the beach in Florida for the winter. We visited, played on the beach, and got covered in sand. When we went back to the house to clean up, we got sand everywhere. Seeing the sand reminded me of sprinkles, too. I asked my grandma for some. Not.
“Cleaning up will make him (the cat) hot, so you’ll give him a bathing suit and
take him to the beach.”
Obviously. We have four cats, I should try this sometime.
“He’ll want to go in the water.”
The author has NEVER had a cat.
“He’ll put them in his pail and try to pick it up.”
And then he’ll realize he doesn’t have thumbs.
But maybe these are just examples of how my brain works. I’ll give Laura Numeroff credit for being far more creative than me. Brain musings aside, I really do like this book. We also have If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

I laughed out loud reading this. Great job, Mike! Write to us again soon.
Hey Mike! I love this post! We recently borrowed this book from the library. I was really excited for the "new" edition to the series cause I loved the first few so much.
This one left me feeling a bit mentally stretched. You commentary left me feeling validated. Thanks! (I'm to literal for my own good sometimes)
Loved this post. I haven't heard of the books, but I have to say I'm with you, Mike. I'm not making the connections the author does, either! Funny stuff, though!
ICLW.
We have "If you give a moose a muffin" and we absolutely love it :) I hadn't thought about it, but I didn't realize that Laura Numeroff had a series of these books. I'm going to pick a bunch more up.
Thanks for the review :)
too funny! Loved the last bit about the thumbs, you have the same sort of sense of humour my husband and I share ;) My son loved these books too. I've been lamenting the fact that I don't have another little one to buy the If you Give a Cat a Cupcake book :(
Jamie~Thanks for you well wishes on my blog. I appreciate it. Yes, my doctor does think that my thyroid nodule may be causing me not to be able to produce eggs. Apparently, thyroid nodules have been known to inhibit egg production, but no one can know for sure if my cycles will return after my thyroidectomy. Intriguing, huh?! :)
Anyway, I wish you and your family the very best! Happy 13 month birthday to Bo!
One of my favorite little kids series! We have all sorts of made up versions in our house ...if you give daddy a doughnut ...etc.
Fun times!

I'll have to pick up the others, thank for sharing.

Smiles at the post...and welcome to to blogosphere!
ICLW Trippin'!
Being Mike's mother, I can tell you that his wit has always kept us smiling at home. At a very young age his love for reading and writing was very evident and his intellect and thought-provoking humor sometimes was (and still is) over our heads. But he's a great guy! We're proud of you, Mike! Keep on writing!
bwahaha! I love that take on the book! Those books are funny, but wierd at the same times.
Welcome to the blogosphere Mike. I love the post title and I think a book with that title would be hysterical. We have "If you give a mouse a cookie" and my littlest loves it.
