SurfShelf is God's Gift to Me!!

I'm an Internet addict. When I'm not taking care of Bo, I'm typically working on the computer in some capcity. Whether it is grading papers for my online job, writing blog posts, responding to emails, editing photos, or reading blogs, I typically fill my "Bo-free time" with computer usage.

In many ways, this is a good thing. I love the computer and I love that I have the opportunity to work from home on the Internet. But, being on the computer is a very sedentary hobby. Or at least it use to be, until this box arrived in the mail on Tuesday.

The SurfShelf mounts on nearly any elliptical, treadmill, stairstepper, or stationary bike! We have both an elliptical and a treadmill at home but chose to mount the SurfShelf on our treadmill for numerous reasons. Here it is, all setup and ready to go!

I'm the type that needs to be distracted while working out. If I'm just walking or ellipticaling and watching the time go by, well, time seems to go very slowly. Over the years I've tried many things to distract myself. At EIU, there were mounted TV's that were great! At our local gym, I always brought a magazine for my time on the cardio machines. Since I began trying to meet my fitness goals at home, I've used books on CD, the TV, and magazines. But the SurfShelf, my friends, is the answer to all of my prayers.

I tried the SurfShelf out last night (isn't this the most attractive picture of me ever? haha! Obviously, I don't worry too much about my looks when I'm working out at home...) and I absolutely love this!! I was able to easily scroll through my Google Reader, check the status updates on Facebook and Twitter, and even type a Tweet, all while walking. I don't think I could type while running, but I could definitely read or watch a DVD. I don't see myself grading essays on the treadmill either (too much concentration) but for every day surfing, this is perfect! Now I have no excuse not to walk! I can surf and exercise at the same time!!

The School of Essential Ingredients

Mike prepares to dig into his dessert at a restaurant in St. Martin.

There isn't much that Mike and I enjoy more than a good meal. Many of my memories revolve around food and my waistline is significantly larger than I'd like for it to be due to our propensity to choose eating as our hobby of choice.
From the mundane peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that my Aunt Sally use to make when I was little to the homemade chicken stuffed tortellini drenched in Alfredo sauce that we ate the night that we became engaged, I associated food with numerous events in my life. I've even been teased by my friends about taking too many pictures with food on vacation...

The first strawberry daiquiri I had on our honeymoon in Hawaii that had just a touch of ginger and I've never quite been able to recreate...

The lemon scallops that I enjoyed at the phenomenal French restaurant in Disney's Epcot before watching the fireworks display...

The first time Mike made me his famous cheesy scrambled eggs...

It's no wonder I weigh so much more than I use to. Food has become more than a way to nourish my body -- it's also a way to nourish my soul and create memories that will last a lifetime.

And that is what I loved best about a book that I just finished last night The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister. The book weaves descriptive tales of food into the lives of eight characters who are participating in a cooking class on Monday nights. If you love food and love to read, this book will soothe you.
It's a short book and a quick read but at the heart of the book it reminds all of us that food is more than just a vessel. Food has meaning. Food can be sensual. Food is a way to share our feelings and experiences with others.
In lieu of my typical Tuesdays with Dorie recipe this week, I'm sharing with you this book that will help you to see food in a new light. Enjoy.

Enjoying a room service meal of filet and cheesecake on our first cruise.

Yummie Tummie!! Review and Giveaway!!

It's no secret, since I had Bo, I've been less than impressed by my mid-section. While I had (notice the past tense...) lost all of the weight that I gained with Bo (minus the 10 IVF pounds and we won't talk about the IVF pounds from this time...), my tummy is still less than flattering. There is a little pooch there that I am afraid will never go away. And a definite "muffin-top" is present when I wear my favorite jeans.

Thank God for the Yummie Tummie. It's shapewear that's actually comfortable! I've worn Spanx and other types of "suck-it-inners" before but they aren't very comfortable and squeezing my body into it is always a gymnastic feat. Yummie Tummie's reminds me of my favorite layering t-shirts and camis (I'm a big fan of layering!) and they have a build in "magic" section in the middle that gently but effectively sucks in that unwanted pooch and smoothes everything out. Seriously, it's like a miracle.
I reviewed the regular length tank and did have some problems with the tank rolling up. When I order another one I will definitely go with the long length for my torso. Even though I'm short, my torso is long and my legs are short so I've always needed extra long bathing suits. If you have a long torso, definitely order the long size for ultimate comfort.

I love that they are comfortable, don't look like hosiery, and come in so many different styles and colors. Definitely a wardrobe essential and worth every penny!

Yummie Tummie has graciously agreed to giveaway a Yummie Tummie in the design of your choice for one lucky reader! All you need to do is head over to Yummie Tummie and pick out what you would like to win and then tell me about it in the comments.
